Sundance 2011

This weekend Hal and I did something that we've never done before. We went to Park City during the Sundance Film Festival. We're so lucky to live so close to something so amazing, and neither of us have ever been. I remember last year we went to the Broadway Theatre downtown, where they show a lot of Sundance movies and everyone was talking about how Spike Lee was going to be there that night. Neither of us knew who he was, and we weren't there to see a Sundance movie...so we weren't too excited.

We didn't have tickets to see anything, we just wanted to see what Park City was like during Sundance, so at like 9 at night we drove up there.A tip? They have little signs that say this, but they're hard to read everything they say when you're driving. If you're going to sight see, park in Deer Valley. We parked at Deer Valley Resort and a bus came and picked us up for free and dropped us off on Main Street. It was sweet, their buses, at least to Deer Valley were free.

We drove up the mountain to some of the resorts before we headed to Main Street. We brought my brother-in-law along with us, and I wanted to see what Stein Eriksen Lodge looked like in the winter, and Hal wanted to show his brother how fancy the place we go for our anniversary is. I told Hal not to turn up the drive to the Lodge, because they always have people waiting outside to grab your car the moment you pull up, but he thought he could turn around and he wanted to see the Lodge....so he pulled in and sure enough 2 guys rushed up and tried to take the car. It was worth it though, the Lodge looks so beautiful with the snow. Too bad I don't have $1,000 to stay there during the winter...per night, Yikes. I was too much of a wimp to try and take a picture after Hal told them we turned up there by "accident". So this was the only picture I got....it down the lane from the Lodge.

It was so beautiful up there, I'm so bummed this was the only picture I got of it, it was too dark to catch how beautiful it was. They have a ton of snow up in Deer Valley/Park City.

After lying to the Steins guys we went back down the mountain to Deer Valley and parked and took the bus to Main Street.

In Park City, Main Street is it. It's where all of their little shops/restaurants/boutiques are. Well, where a lot of them are anyway. It's where you hang out when you are visiting Park City. So we went there and walked up and down the street. We didn't see anyone famous, probably because it was like 10 by the time we got to Main Street, so all of the shops were closed and there were just lines to get into parties and restaurants. But it was still pretty.

We saw a ton of papperazzi around some guy with dark hair. We didn't see his face and then I heard a girl at the edge of the group say, "Oh my gosh, that's Dustin" But I didn't hear the last name. The only famous Dustin I can think of is Dustin Hoffman...so pretty much I saw Dustin Hoffman.

A local radio station is doing something called "Sundance Gawker" where people send in pictures of famous people they see up there. Man, we missed out! Maybe we'll have to go back during the day or something, because there are a lot of famous people up there. Paul Rudd, Zooey Deschanel, 50 cent, James Franco and tons more. I found out today that Elijah Wood is up there. How did I miss that? I was so obsessed with him in Middle School/High School. I'm so bummed I didn't know earlier! Oh well. This just makes me excited to actually get tickets and go to some movies next year! Thank goodness for locals discount tickets.

Two Years!!

traI know I wasn't the best at blogging in a timely manner already, but I'm afraid it might get even worse. Hal's computer died before school started and so we are now own to just my laptop. Although we beefed it up with a new gig of ram and windows 7, I still don't get it to use it very often thanks to homework. Thankfully I can often blog from work, but most of the pictures I took from our anniversary were on my camera, so I waited until I could use it, and thankfully I had some time Friday night :)

Have any of you heard of Park City before? I know that people who live in Utah have heard of it, but maybe some of you have heard of a little thing called the Sundance Film Festival started by Robert Redford? Well, if you've heard of tha,t you've heard of Park City, because that's where it's held. Park City is awesome. It's the swanky getaway spot of Utah. And luckily for us it was SO beautiful while we were up there for our anniversary. You can compare to see how pretty it was last year while we were up there here. Well really, you should be proud of me for blogging about it all at once, seeing as last year I didn't blog about the rest until our year and a half mark.

We had the most fantastic weekend in Park City. It was exactly what I needed. We relaxed, ate ridiculously overpriced food, and rejuvenated ourselves.

When we first got up there we went up to see the new Montage Hotel that my husband did some work on for work and then we drove up towards Gaurdsman Pass. It was so pretty up there, you could see so far all over.

So funny story, look at Hal's sunglasses and you can see a reflection of his arm taking the picture. This next picture though is the best. It was so windy and the sun was in our eyes and so I was trying to take a picture and thought, oh this is awesome, use the camera to block out the sun, best idea I ever had....

It's the perfect time of year to be up there, because it's not crowded with ski bums, travelers and  Sundance people. The mountain air feels so good! So good tidings to all of you from the mountain abode, and here's to year 3!

Today is one and a half years! woo! Since Hal is gone snowboarding with his brother for the day I'd figure I would take the time to be super lazy and do nothing other than make this post. I actually had every intention to clean, but weird, that hasn't happened yet. Oh well. It's a special day so Hal can't get mad at me. haha.

So in honor of this day I will finally get around to posting our one year anniversary pictures, because it was so much fun. Get ready for the picture overload.

Hal and I went to the Utah State Fair during the day. It was the first time I have ever been there. My sister and her family met us there so we went around the fair with them. It had a lot of fun. The animals were definitely my favorite part. It was pretty hot that day, but luckily it wasn't unbearable like it can often be during the summer.

We saw the craziest thing there. They had a steer that was over 5'5" tall. It was crazy crazy huge so we had to get some pictures with it. I was surpised that it was so calm with all of the people around it taking pictures.

Isn't my niece so stinkin cute? Seriously, my sister has the cutest kids. She was scared to be up on his shoulders and wanted down right after this.

After we left the fair we went and changed my my friend Christine's house and her and her husband took some pictures of us in our wedding clothes at temple square. I totally got up on this statue all by myself in my dess, and then Hal and to copy me and climbed up on the other statue. As he was helping me down we ran into one of my friends from High School, Kim. They just happend to be downtown for the symphony and walked past us as we were being silly.

We rode off into the sunset in a carriage. Actually, the sun did set as we rode around temple square in a carriage. I had always wanted to go on a ride, and it was totally awesome.

We finally made our way to Stein Erikson in Park City. That is where we went the weekend we got married. Steins is serously magic in September. It's beautiful up there and the lodge is super duper fancy.

I finally did it! Just 6 months late, but better late than never, right? I figured that we had too much fun and Park City was too beautiful not to post about it. Looking at these make me long for Spring. Hopefully it comes soon.

We're going to a st. patty's day party tonight and I'm excited because I couldn't celebrate on the 17th because I had a final interview the next morning. I'll know on Monday if I got it or not. So send good vibes my way!

It's not my fault

Here is a little preview of our anniversary. Fall has definitely hit Park City. We had such a great time up there. The Stein Erikson Lodge was once again amazingly amazing...more on that in a future post.

Here is the problem though..it kind of looks like two caterpillars crawled up on my face and built their cocoons above my eyes. Ok, maybe it's not quite that bad, but I need to pluck my eyebrows real bad. I'm kind of lazy in general, but this is probably my most hated grooming habit. At least this time it isn't my fault. Yeah, that's right...it's Hal's fault that my eyebrows look like I could be Sasquatch's kid. Now I know you may be asking why this could possibly be Hal's fault since he is practically perfect. Well, let me tell you. For some inexplicable reason Hal is obsessive about plucking his unibrow (I know, sexy, right?). But the messed up thing is that because he likes to pluck said unibrow he always takes my tweezers out of my makeup bag and for some also inexplicable reason he is incapable of putting them back into the makeup bag. Is it really that hard? Apparently not because I find myself doing it like twice a week afer he has used them. We all know by now that I'm not plucking that often.

Stein Erikson had one of those awesome magnified mirrors that even lights up in our room. I know, awesome. I was stoked. So I look into it and think 'Man, I need to pluck my eyebrows.' Now the funny thing is once Hal discovered this mirror he turned the light on and looked into it he said 'Hun, I think I know where Stephanie Meyer got the idea for the eyes in The Host'. (The light from the mirror gives you a ring around your pupil) (I know, sexy, right...sorry he is taken ladies). I was so stoked to use this awesome mirror. By now you must be able to see my forshadowing...when I opened my makeup bag low and behold my tweezers were not inside! Blast ye Hal! So pretty much I have decided I don't feel like plucking my eyebrows since my plans were thwarted. Just kidding, that is kind of gross...I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually.
