Float The Great Salt Lake

It's been real hot here in Utah lately. It's been 104 the last couple of days. We're lucky to have the dry heat. Even though it's 104, it's nothing compared to Cambodia with that humidity.

But it's still real hot. What's the best thing to do when it's real hot? Go float in the Great Salt Lake. Because of the salt content in the lake you float. It's such a strange feeling. Once you can't touch your legs just float up to the surface. No treading water needed.

 Driving out to Antelope Island is the best place to go floating in the lake. There are some showers out there, but we just rocked the salt at the end of our float, it makes for a nice exfoliator. I wouldn't plan anything after floating in the lake though, your hair will be crusty hard, and you'll probably have brine shrimp in places that you want to wash off as soon as possible.

 The sunsets at the lake are seriously stunning. It was amazing to watch the colors of the sky, and the colors of the water change as the sun sunk lower and lower.

Color Festival

The Hari Krishna temple here in Utah does a huge color festival every spring. I've heard it's the largest color festival in the US. I've wanted to go for so long, so we decided to go this year.

We all dressed in clothes we didn't care much about. The traffic was horrendous, so we parked about 2-3 miles away and just walked. People had leftover chalk that they were throwing at those of us walking towards the temple, so all of us already had color before we even made it to the temple.

It was insane how many people were there. They do a throwing every hour, but people are always throwing chalk, all the time. We decided to go up onto the temple so we could see everyone down on the ground when the throwing started.

Then we threw at each other. We mostly threw at each other anyway.

After the throwing ended we decided we wanted to get even more colored, so we all bought another bag, and this time we only threw at each other.

We had so much fun at the color festival. You can't tell it from this picture, but I totally had purple in my teeth and all throughout my hair. There was so much chalk in the air. They had face masks for sale, but the best part was throwing it at each other's faces. Hal threw a giant chunk of yellow at my face. I breathed out my nose, and I was like a dragon breathing fire, a cloud of yellow came out.

We had to line our car with sheets to make it back home.

Tip for next time. Dust as much as you possibly can off before you get any inch of you wet. If you get it wet it stains. My friend Meagan had a purple face after her shower. I'm glad she showered before me, or I would have ended up with a purple face too. Instead we just ended up with a purple stained bathtub.

There was only one thing left to do, order take away from an Indian restaurant and stuff our faces with curry and naan.

Nothing Beats Downtown

Do you know what's awesome? Having a freight sticker on my car for downtown and parking in the half an hour parking freight zone across from my building for an hour and a half and being able to look out the conference room window to make sure my car doesn't have a ticket on it because I am staying late at work so I can have some cake since we are celebrating November birthdays this month. If there ever was a month where we didn't have a birthday I'm pretty sure my work would buy a cake anyway and say we were celebrating for all people who have a birthday this month or some silliness like that. 'Cause we're awesome, and we like cake over here...

Actually, work isn't awesome and I need a new job pronto. I have actually been looking since I graduated as I am now super over qualified for what I do and get paid way too little. I have been on some interviews, but it's a hard market out there. Lame.

I have an interview on Monday with a business in Murray and it made me realize something.

I need to work downtown. I have worked downtown for the last 4 Christmases...soon to be 5 and I just don't know if it would feel like Christmas without being downtown all the time. I drove by temple square last night as I do everynight on my way home and they had some of the lights on. It just made me reminisce (can you believe that I just spelled that correctly on the first try and didn't even need the spell check, oh man, that's amazing. Hooked on P-Honiks work-ed for meh) about Christmas time downtown. Hal and I love downtown...besides all the bumdidles. Well, except the one who plays the cello really well and is missing a bunch of teeth, he's cool, but I digress...

The old building I worked in had the best Christmas decorations. They had huge wreaths and garland that goes down the huge posts that hold the building up and a big tall Christmas tree that someone comes in and decorates. I feel all Christmasy just thinking about it. I have been so blessed to work downtown and see all of the wonderful Holiday cheer that comes out this time of year (ha, that rhymed). This picture is from Gallivan Plaza which is kitty corner to my new building downtown, so pretty, huh?

I never thought I would be one to say I am ready for it to get cold and snow, I usually hate that stuff, but the holidays are almost here and it needs to be snowy for it to be Christmas.

County Building

Yesterday before i went home sick from work I had to go to the Mayor's office to get a proclamation proclaiming next week as pro-bono week. The Mayor's office is in the old court house downtown. You know, that castle looking building that is amazingly beautiful. Well, I had never been in there and it is basically as wonderful inside as it is outisde. While I was walking through it to his office I thought about how it would be an awesome place to get pictures taken, especially bridals, oh why didn't I think of this when I had my bridals taken. But then I thought that I wouldn't have gotten these amazing pictures if I had taken my pictures in the city building downtown.




Hal's mom tells me I look like Gretta Garbo in these pictures. Plus, Wheeler Farm is practically my favorite place. It's my favorite place in Utah. I am a huge animal person and I love going there to feed the ducks and look at all of the cows, horses, turkeys, chickens, lambs, sheep. I need to go back there before it gets super cold and all of the ducks fly away.
