Kanarra Creek

The first hike we did is called Kanarra Creek, and it's just outside of Cedar City, Utah. We thought it would be nice to do a hike on our way down to Zions. I was really nervous starting out on this trip because I didn't know where my energy level would be, or if I'd have the strength to keep hiking.
The hike starts out on a dry path. The further you move back into the canyon, you follow a river, and as you continue along the hike, you criss cross over the river many times. We were trying to see how long we could go without getting our feet wet, so we did a lot of rock hopping. There are often trails on both sides of the river, so there's not one set way to go.
And finally we made it to the point where walking in the river was the trail, which was really fun. We saw a documentary where some guys went hiking up a river in Jordan and ever since then Hal and I have wanted to do a river hike. This hike didn't disappoint in that respect.
There were two points along the hike where a waterfall blocked your path. The first had a metal ladder installed for people to go up and town. Hal and Charles spotted a rope to climb up the water fall and both opted for that way.

The second waterfall there were some logs precariously positioned with a bunch of ropes nailed into the rock. It wasn't too bad climbing up, but coming back down was a little scary. We went past the second water fall, but there was no official end to the hike, so we went as far as we wanted, and then turned around.
The point where most of the hikers stopped was this little watering hold pictured above. The rock made a natural slide into a little pool of water below. This hike was a lot of fun, and was a great way to kick off our trip. It's definitely kid friendly, especially on a hot day. Be sure to wear clothes with some give though, Hal may or may not have split his shorts open on this hike.

This looks like so much fun! We have a similar hike here in Portland and it's where Nate and I met! :-)
