The Best Surprise Ever

This weekend I had the best surprise I've ever had in my entire life. And that's saying something coming from me, someone who loves surprises.

It all started two weeks ago when Hal told me he found the perfect gift for me, but it didn't qualify for Amazon Prime, so it would take about two weeks to ship.

Fast forward to last Wednesday and Hal told me it would be arriving on Friday or Saturday. He was talking up this present like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Which immediately made me very weary of what this was, so I was preparing myself for something horrible.

On Friday Hal told me that it had been delivered and would be waiting for me at home. He asked if we could skype early, since I had some plans that night, and he had a meeting. I was planning on rushing home to skype and make it to a friends.

Well, my friend canceled last minute, and Hal said his group canceled, so I took my precious time getting home.

I get home and start immediately making dinner for myself. I noticed some of my bread and juice was gone and was all upset, because the people I live with have never eaten my food, and I can't believe they would do that out of the blue.

Hal and I finally start skyping as I ate my food. Hal was in a dark room and said he wouldn't tell me where he was until I opened my package. I really wanted to finish eating though so I wouldn't get grumpy, so we just chatted away. He kept telling me to open the package, so I finally did. This is what I saw.
Immediately I thought he would never mail me a red box. So I said "where are you?" I looked down and it was light where he was now and I thought I recognized the light fixture above his head. I jumped up and started towards the door.

But then I stopped and thought, if I get all excited, and he's not here, this will be the biggest disappointment and I will be so let down.

So again I said "where are you" and I head my voice echo from the hallway.

I opened my door and Hal was standing on the other side.

I wrapped my arms around him and immediately started bawling.
We didn't spend more than a minute apart the entire weekend. We even lucked out that his flight on Sunday was canceled, so we got a whole extra day together.

He had planned for that friend to cancel on me on Friday night, so I wouldn't make other plans. And told my Saturday night plans that I wouldn't make it long before he came. Hal had been the one to eat my food, and just sat there and listened to me complain while we skyped. He was so tricky, and it was perfect. It was the best surprise I've ever had, and from someone who is terrible at giving away surprises, so it was even better that I had no idea it was coming. It felt rejuvenating and wonderful and exactly what I needed all into one.

It feels like a dream now that he's gone again, it just went by so quickly.

And now we only have another week apart until we get almost 3 days together. I can't wait!
