Day 30, Thursday: React to this term: Letting Go
To me, letting go is hard. It doesn't matter if it's people, or sentimental belongings that I never use, letting go is really hard.
I invest myself in my relationships with the people I care about, so naturally it's really hard when a friendship has run it's course and it's time for me to let go.
How do you know when you've reached the point where letting go will be more positive?
I guess you just have to take a chance on letting go and hoping that is a good thing for the moment, and perhaps when things calm down or change again, you can welcome them back. You can still love them from afar. You can appreciate the memories and the time that you did have together.
And maybe if you're lucky, they'll come back to you.

I've had to let go of some really good friends. Practically best friends. But we had grown a part, and they had changed and it really hurt to watch them make decisions that I never thought they would make. So I had to let go, for the benefit of both of us, but really I wanted to hold on with all I had, because even though things had changed, I still cared so much about them. It's hard to let go of them, your life might be better without them in it for the moment, but you'll never know if you'll ever have them in your life again.

It's so true, it's so hard to let go of friends who are taking a completely different path than you ever thought they'd take, especially when you disagree with the majority of their worldview. That happened to me in the last few years with one of my best friends. Thankfully we got back in touch and although we still have different worldviews, we have enough in common that we're able to keep in touch and be friends again, while we both know to steer clear of topics we disagree on. It's a different kind of friendship than it was before, definitely not as close, but it's better than nothing for now!
Letting go of friends is so hard. When you grow up (especially after college) I feel like you really reevaluate who your good friends are... who makes the effort to be a good friend when it's not exactly convenient to be. So sad, but it's necessary to rid yourself of the drama attached to some people.
Umm, yeah, letting go of people is crazy hard. Any kind of goodbye is. Mostly, I've moved so often that "letting go" has been somewhat forced upon me...which in a way makes it a little easier. Still sucks, though.
thats always so hard-when you want to be there for someone and don't want to abandon them, but when you reach those crossroads and realize you need to get rid of the things that bring you down or have a bad influence on you..I've definitely been there. I hope things get better for you and that those friendships come back to you one day!

it is never easy to let go. and you found the perfect "quote". because really, it's all about understanding even if you don't agree. i let go of friends as well and it wasn't easy but part of what we all had to go through and i think it made us stronger. and yes, who knows, time will tell...those friends may come back...and if not, those memories last a lifetime
