4th of July

We had the most fantastic 4th this year. We really did. It might have felt so fantastic because I had the day off from both jobs so I could finally get some relaxing in.

We started off the day with sleeping in, because that's how all holidays should start. For Real.

My brother told us about a short hike that ends in a waterfall where we could take the niece and nephews and the dog, so we were sold, and headed out.
We showed up with snacks and our camelback and all ready for a hike. It ended up being a less than 10 minute hike. But it was so much fun nonetheless.

It was a hot day and the spray of the waterfall felt wonderful.

Scout the pup had a blast trouncing through the water.
And then I proceeded to not take a single picture of the rest of the day.

But we cooled off even more at a splash pad.

And then had a wonderful BBQ courtesy of my brother.

On the drive home as I was watching the fireworks all across the valley from the freeway I realized the 4th is a pretty cool holiday. It's amazing that we all come together to celebrate the fact that we're free, and that we were willing to fight for our freedom.

Waterfalls are among my top favorite natural wonders. That does sound like an awesome day! July 4th should definitely include water activities and outdoor eating!

Sounds like my kind of hike... short, and ending at a waterfall. :)

Funny story, when I first moved into the ward where we met, Steve, Gavin, Scott, and I went on a hike there in the evening. One of my first friendy outings in the new ward. :) Good times.
