Nails

This post might seem a little bit weird. Just think of it as learning the quirky little things about be. Then you can tell people that we're besties because you know some random facts about me. So today we're going to talk about fingernails. Weird, right? Yesterday I bent my fingernail backwards and ended up breaking it. I don't care what guys say, it freaking hurts when you do that. People should be more sincere when they say "oh no, you broke a nail." It's like yeah, I did, and it hurt real bad because this thing that grows out of my body just was bent the wrong way and then broke, so what if it makes me maybe want to cry a little bit when it happens. It's called pain people.

Anyway, my fingernails grow pretty long naturally, but they do this little weird thing. Don't ask me why I thought to post this, but for some reason I decided to. So my pointer finger nails do this really weird thing. You can't really tell just from looking at it head on.

See you can't even really tell can you? Well, let me show you a I can't even think what kind of view that would be...Let me show you another view so you can see what I'm talking about.

Do you see how it downturns on one side? Isn't that kind of weird? It sucks because then as it grows it becomes more and more weak as it leans to one side more and more and then finally, one side gets a crack in it because it's bent to far. I think it's genetic or something because my mom's nails did this too, and my sister's do also. I kind of like that, that my mom's did it also because then I get something that was definitely from her. These pictures were taken just over a month ago, and I cut them right after this picture so they wouldn't bend back and break, so I took another one of my nails today since they're already long again.

Can you see how it's bent even more? It already has a sliver in it so I'm going to have to cut them. Sniff Sniff.

Alright, I'm done with the weirdness about nails. How do you like to keep your nails? I'm not much of a nail polish person. Although one time I got a manicure with red nail polish and my nails looked so chic and fantastic. I was bummed that when I tried to recreate it for my photoshoot it didn't work out. Seriously, go back and look at the picture where we're holding the S and H and you can see they had already chipped from doing it a day earlier. Dumb nail polish. Check out this blog. Isn't that crazy? How does she do it, someone please tell me!

Vintage Goodness

You know when you meet someone and things just go pleasantly well? Like a good partnership is formed because things just fall into place. I'm not talking about dating or anything. I'm talking about Maddie and Lee of Maddie E. Photography (had to throw the whole thing in there in case people search her name this will come up and they can see how fantastic she is. Maddie posted this on her blog today. I was excited to see it because I haven't had time to pop the CD she sent me into my computer to see them all finalized and edited. Both her and Lee were so much fun to work with and they did such a fantastic job. It was freezing cold and windy, but everything just worked out well...except for the balloons, but that's ok. So here are some of the photos from her blog, since I haven't had time to post at home, and when I have time hopefully I can post some more, but to see more of them go to Maddie's Website

You may have noticed that Hal is barefoot in these...Umm, I maybe forgot to bring him shoes since he came straight from work. Woopsies! Luckily Maddie and Lee are so talented and helped us work around it.
Look at how creative they are! Don't the baskets just look so adorable!?

So looking through some pictures I realized it seemed like they told a funny story, so I'll post more than I was going to, but there are still lots more, so go to Maddie's site to see the rest

Here's the story. S: Oh look balloons, are they for me.? H: No, the flowers are for you. S: Oh really?
H: I mean just kidding, here are the balloons for you S: Oh so now you want to share with me, I see how it is.

H: No, I mean they were uh, um for you from the beginning...back peddling back peddling
S: hahaha, it's ok, we all know who wears the pants anyway. So you aren't mad that I popped them, right?
H: How could I be mad? Let's kiss and make up since that's the way the French do.
Ok, never mind, that story was real dumb, oh well cause we know who wears the pants. haha, jk...sort of

And on to more pretty pictures

Look! Lots of balloons to make up for Hal not sharing earlier. We were going to have an epic balloon release, but it was so stinking windy that they all released in one big group even though we tried our best to untangle them. That's all right, they were still fun to release! Hal was such a trooper to get all dressed up and do this shoot with me. Thanks so much hun!

Thank you so much Maddie and Lee for doing this shoot for us, it turned out so fantastic and we owe it all to you! Remember to check out more of them here

The Beach

I finally have some time to sit down and blog about the rest of our trip to Oregon. We had so much fun on the beach. We always stay in the same little town right outside of Lincoln City. It was fun to go back with Hal, because it's such a part of my childhood. It is a place that reminds me so much of my mom, so it was really special to be able to share it finally with Hal. I only got one picture of of the beach where we stay, so I am stealing some from my sister. I'm going to break this up into a few posts so it's not mega long.

This post will be our time at the beach, and the next will be our time driving up the coast. We drove from Neskowin up the coast to Seaside and stopped at a bunch of random towns along the way. It ended up being so much fun.

Here are some pictures of our time in Neskowin. We only went to the beach one day there, and it wasn't too warm, and the water was fahreezing. We still had a lot of fun burrying Hal in the sand though, and then payback by burying all of the nephews and nieces that were out there.

After that day at the beach the next day we went into Lincoln City. We had a blast hanging out with the newly married couple and my neice T.

The newlyweds
The married couple
Our last night we had another bonfire and that is my only picture that I got of our time in Neskowin.

Haha, just kidding, I realized I got some pictures of some of the family before we all split up to go home. The Proposal Rock Inn is the only hotel in Neskowin. The old lady that works there said that she recognized our last name from the years we stayed there when I was little. If you ever make it to Neskowin go to the tiny store, the only one in town, and get some Tillamook ice cream. It's great ice cream, but it's even better from this store, it may be just because I grew up getting it there, but it's the best from there.

Do you see those pillows in my hand? I bought them when we had to go to the store before the wedding, but we had to go all the way into Vancouver to find a store, and at the site you had to pay to use their bedding so I bought pillows, but we didn't even end up needing them. I thought I would end up returning them, so I kept them in thei plastic cases. Well, after taking them everywhere with me on the trip so I could return them, we decided to keep them. Dumb sauce.

Bye Neskowin!

Um, Ew.

There is a reason that I didn't put the title up on this post. I knew some people would see it and then not ever read it just because of the title. But I wanted everyone to read this and be as disgusted as I was about this. I promise I won't put a picture up (you're welcome Amy) because I know some people get grossed out at the sight of these.

They're called: Spiders.

(And Amy if you stopped reading right now, I'm just going to tell you when you come into town next week)

Now we've had some adventures with spiders this last week. It seems like lots of babies are hatching or something, maybe i'm crazy, but it totally seems like they're out more than normal right now. Anyway, I have two stories, but they're related.

Last weekend we were over at Hal's parents house and he, his brother, and his friend were drawing with paint markers on the longboards they made (isn't that cool? but that's for another post) and I was asleep on the couch after studying, since it was like 1:30 in the morning. All the sudden I was woken up to a lot of loud cries of "that's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen" "ew, squish it," "get it quick, get a paper towel and flush it" You know, things along that line. So apparently here's what happened. There was a spider on the floor close to Hal's feet. He said he was really fat (did some of you just get what I'm talking about) so he didn't want to squish it all over the floor so he started poking it with his pen. He poked it and it moved so he poked it again. Well, third times the charm, he poked it this time, it stopped moving and all of the sudden in the words of Dane "It's Giving Birth" Um, ew.

Apparently as I just looked it up, some species of spiders carry their babies on their back. How sick is that? Now I told you I wouldn't put pictures up here, but I was brave and found a picture, if you're interested in seeing it up close.

Now I'm not a normal fraidy cat of spiders. I just kill them and move on with my life. So this week Hal and I were coming home and it was dark and I was about to open the door when our sensor light came on and there was a big spider right by our door. It wasn't huge in size, but the body was huge. It grossed me out so bad. So I used the flashlight app on my phone and handed it to hal as he examined the spider. Since we had had our recent disgusting experience we thought we knew what we were encountering here. Abnormally large body? Um, ew. Hal opened the door for me since I was grossed out, I went inside and handed him the bug spray and he went to town. Yes, it did have babies on it's back, and yes we did use the rest of the spray to spray down the entire area around our door to prevent any other baby mamas getting inside.

Normally I love baby things. But you know that saying, a face even a mother couldn't love? That's how I feel about baby spiders. They're worse than normal spiders because you see one and there is probably 800 more of them close by.

A tip I found out? Hairspray works pretty well in killing baby spiders.

Man I keep feeling like there is something crawling on me. Guess that means it's time to stop talking about spiders.

In good news, I bought my Something Corporate tickets and will be enjoying myself this weekend.

CLEP, can I do it?

I know guys, I've been soo bad about posting. I promised more Oregon pictures forever ago. I'm lame, what can I say? So, I will do those soon, I uploaded them to my computer from my phone so that's a start, right?

So since I don't have those pictures with me at work to post them I thought I would post about something else and see if I can get any advice from all of those bilingual people out there.

I have to take a test...and soon. And I'm scared about it. I've been studying for a while, and all of my 3 years of high school language studies are starting to come back, but I'm still scared because there is still so much I don't know. So I'm kicking studying into gear. I ordered a CLEP practice book today that comes with 3 practice test, and I found some Peterson tests online for free! The one I ordered and the one I got for free are the 2 most commonly used, so lets hope they help me figure out where I am in the studying process.

This is what I am planning on taking next month. I have a program from Costco that is supposed to be like Rosetta Stone that I have been working with and I'm on the 3rd 4th out of 6 cds and a co-worker let me borrow her old Spanish 1020 textbook that has really been helping piece things together. So that is what I have been studying up until now, but hopefully these practice tests will help kick things into gear for me.

Have you ever taken a CLEP test? Have you ever taken Spanish in college? I just have to get a 50 out of 80 on the test. I just have to pass at a 1020 level for what I need. Lets hope I can do it. So please, give me your advice!

Good News

Guys,

Do you remember this post that I made? Well, this weekend I got some good news. I don't know how I'm so behind on this. Now it's not the greatest news, that would be if the Hush Sound got back together, but it's still pretty good news.

Remember these guys?

Yeah, that's right, they're currently back together, AND they're coming to town next weekend. I'm a little bit excited.

They broke up when I was in high school and didn't really know who they were. I got into their music while they were broken up and me and my then boyfriend went on a quest, to meet them. We met Josh Partington when he came to a bar that is no longer around with his band Firescape. We even got pictures with him. I didn't ever meet Brian Ireland, his band came to town on a Sunday so I didn't go, but I did get a phone call from him. Isn't that awesome? Some people that went had him call me. We also met William Tell who used to be in Something Corporate when he came to Kilby Court a few years ago. I have a drum stick from his drummer and a signed set list somewhere. I don't think we ever met Kevin Page or Andrew McMahon. We did follow Andrew through his bout with cancer and I saw Jack's Mannequin a few times. Once I saw them and I was front row of general admission seating, and I had bruised hips from being pushed up against the barrier all night. My favorite time I saw them is when they came to my college and performed. It was awesome. I went with my friend Monica and we had to hold on to each other to even stay close to each other. We got pushed around alot and ended up getting pushed and pulled right into an old friend from High School, it was awesome. Outdoor concerts are fun.

So that's my escapades with Something Corporate who I've never actually seen live....that is until next weekend!

The Wedding

I decided to brake my Oregon posts up into at least two posts, one for the wedding, and one for the beach. So first is the wedding. We flew into Oregon for my sister's wedding. She was my last non-married sister, even though she had been with her hubby for longer than me and another of my sisters, and both of us have been married for a while.  The wedding was at this amazing place, so I'm of sad that I didn't get more pictures, but I was in the wedding, so it was hard to get pictures of anything.

Some pictures are from my phone and some are from my camera, so sorry if some of them have crappy quality. Hopefully you can see how fantastic everything was. She planned things out so beautifully, and it worked so well with the foresty background.

Isn't is so pretty? This last picture was of where they got married. You can't really see it, but behind the pretty wood thing (seriously, I have no idea what to call that) it opens up to an area for chairs and there's a little altar thing with the most amazing view where they got married. It was very very hot, but beautiful.

I was lucky enough to get a picture with all of my sisters. Can you guess which one of these is my sister? It's the second to last picture. That's my friend meagan I flew out with. There is one picture with one of my sister's missing, I'm saving it for something as part of my continuing story.

They had the yummiest dinner, but it was so hot out in the sun that people were taking their plates and eating in the shade. I ate at the bridal party table, and the heat must have been getting to me, because I started being exteremely clumsy, even more than normal. I kept spilling things all over myself during dinner and pretty much for the rest of the night. I was lucky my the fabric of my dress didn't absorb it and I could just wipe it off. But seirously though, I spilled like 4-5 things on my dress in a matter of like 2 hours.

After dinner, toasts, and desert in the form of a cupcake tier with damask white chocolate on top that were stinking amazing we had dancing! My sister and her hubby took dancing lessons. They did so well. Their song was "hold on" by Micheal Buble. I had never heard it before, my brother told me it was on his CD that was only released in Canada, but check it out on you tube or something, it's really pretty. Apparently the time count made the dance a rumba....I think that's what they said. They did fantastic though. Then she had her daddy daughter dance, once again a song I had never heard, but it was so perfect. After that we danced the night away! I don't have any pictures of it because I was too busy dancing. Apparently I dance like a farmer though, or so my sister says.

Pictures from the past

So I know It's been pretty dead around here. I got back last weekend and I've had no motivation to get on my computer and upload my pictures from my trip. Do you know what the real problem is? My phone. It's easier to hop on the internet on my phone to look up something than it is to open my laptop and wait for it to load. Ok, the real reason is I've just been lazy, and busy, but kind of lazy too.

Anyway, someone blogged about this today and I thought it was so fantastic that I should blog about it before I blog about Oregon...which I'm hoping to have time to do tonight, so maybe check back tonight, or tomorrow..or tomorrow night, haha, but really, maybe tomorrow.

Some of you know that i think my soul belongs to the 40s. If you didn't, well, now you do. This is the most amazing collection of photos from the 1940s, and here's the kicker, they're in color...wha? For real? Yeah, and they're awesome. It's a totally different look of the Great Depression and the beginning of the war in America. It was interesting to see things that you can miss in black and white photos.

A lot of times the 40s and 50s are kind of glorified to be this amazing time, so it was fantastic to see pictures from real people all around the country. Go here to check it out. It's 70 pictures all in color that were adapted from color slides and they all belong to the Library of Congress. I was surprised by how gritty everything looked. There seems to be a layer of dirt and dust on everything, that's something you totally miss in black and white pictures. Here are some of my favorite ones.

So, to see all 70 of them (and you should) go to this blog.
